The Right Habits.
Let It Cure
Give fresh film about 48 hours before washing. Small moisture pockets under new PPF are normal — they evaporate out as it cures. Don’t press them.
Hand Wash Like Paint
pH-neutral soap, soft mitt, gentle pressure. The film’s topcoat likes exactly what good paint likes.
Use the Self-Healing
Light swirls and wash marring disappear with heat — Florida sun or warm water across the panel and the topcoat resets itself. It’s the party trick that never gets old.
Top It If You Want
A ceramic coating over PPF adds slickness and easier washing. Film and coating stack beautifully — that’s the full-armor build.
The Killers.
Picking at Edges
Wrapped edges are sealed on purpose. Fingernails, aggressive clay bars, and detail brushes jammed at seams are how good film gets ruined.
Harsh Chemicals
Solvents, aggressive bug removers, and petroleum products can haze or stain the topcoat. Gentle cleaners do the job.
Waxes With Dyes on Matte Film
On matte or satin PPF, use matte-specific products only — conventional glossing waxes ruin the texture you paid for.
Letting Contaminants Bake
Bird droppings and bugs are acidic. The film is sacrificial armor, but even armor appreciates a prompt rinse in this sun.
Heat Is Your Friend Here.
PPF is the one place the Florida sun works for you: the self-healing topcoat on films like SunTek Ultra and XPEL uses heat to relax fine scratches back to flat. Park it in the sun after a wash and watch the wash marring vanish. The ten-year limited warranty covers yellowing, cracking, and delamination — and an occasional look-over at the shop keeps everything documented and honest.

Do I really have to wait to wash new PPF?
About 48 hours, yes — the adhesive is still setting and small moisture pockets are still evaporating. After that, wash normally.
There are little bubbles under my new film — is it ruined?
Almost certainly not. Fine moisture pockets are a normal part of a wet install and clear as the film cures. If anything still looks off after a couple of weeks, bring it by and we’ll look at it together.
How do I activate the self-healing?
Heat — direct sun, warm water, or a gentle heat gun at the shop. Light swirls flow back out of the topcoat on their own.
Can I ceramic coat over PPF?
Yes, and it’s a great pairing — the film takes the impacts, the coating adds the slickness and chemical resistance. Ask about doing both in one visit.
