How to Care for
Your Build

You invested in a wrap, paint protection film, or ceramic coating — here’s how to keep it looking the day-one best. Straight-up care guides from the Big Shot Rides team in Coconut Creek.

Quick Answer

Wraps, paint protection film, and ceramic coatings all share the same core care: hand wash with the two-bucket method, a pH-neutral shampoo, and a microfiber mitt — never an automatic brush car wash. The differences: a wrap never gets wax and gets washed about weekly; PPF waits ~10 days after install, then washes like paint and self-heals light scratches with heat; a ceramic coating waits ~10 days, washes every two weeks with pH-neutral soap only, and gets a booster spray every few months. Full step-by-step guides for each are below.

Works for All Three

The Universal Rules.

No matter which finish you’re protecting, these habits apply to every one of them:

  • Hand wash only — no automatic brush or tunnel car washes
  • Use the two-bucket method with grit guards
  • pH-neutral car shampoo — never dish soap
  • Soft microfiber mitt — never sponges or brushes
  • Wash top to bottom, in the shade, on a cool surface
  • Dry with microfiber — don’t let it air-dry
  • Keep pressure washers back and off the edges
  • Remove bird droppings, bugs, sap, and fuel immediately

FAQ

Vehicle Care Questions

What’s the one rule for caring for a wrap, PPF, or ceramic coating?

Hand wash with the two-bucket method using a pH-neutral shampoo and a microfiber mitt, and never use an automatic brush car wash. That single habit protects all three finishes. Everything else is fine-tuning.

Can I run any of these through an automatic car wash?

Not a brush or tunnel wash — the brushes lift wrap edges, scuff PPF, and micro-scratch ceramic coatings. A touchless automatic wash is acceptable occasionally, but a gentle hand wash is always best.

How long do I wait to wash after a new install?

About 10 days for all three — a wrap, paint protection film, and a ceramic coating each need about ten days for the adhesive or coating to cure before the first full wash. A light plain-water rinse is fine sooner.

Do any of these need wax?

None of them. Wax harms a wrap, builds up on PPF edges, and clogs a ceramic coating. Use a wrap-safe sealant on gloss wraps or a ceramic booster spray on coatings instead.

I have more than one — like ceramic over PPF. How do I care for it?

Follow the routine for the top layer. Ceramic over PPF is maintained as a ceramic coating; that combination is the lowest-maintenance setup we install. See the individual guides for the specifics.
